House Progress

We have now officially owned our house for 2 1/2 weeks and I feel like so much has changed in the house in that short amount of time!

First order of business, which you saw in the last post, was carpet removal! What a huge difference it made when that carpet was gone! For now, we are having hardwoods installed in the living room/dining room/hallway and leaving the carpet in the bedrooms until the budget permits!

Here is a list of things we wanted to do immediately:

-remove carpet in the living/dining/hallway and replace with hardwoods

-have ceilings sanded, refinished and painted

-take down ALL light fixtures(get rid of them where they can never be found again haha) and replace with beautiful, new fixtures

-paint beams and brick fireplace

-paint all walls

-refinish both bathroom vanities

-tile bathroom floors(and scrub every surface :))

That’s our starting list! We have started to tackle each of those things the last two weeks and a lot has changed in the space!

Here are some photos of what the house is looking like at this point:

IMG_1411

It’s amazing how much brighter and airy it feels now! Note: that pile of wood is our hardwoods acclimating to our house. If you didn’t know, real hardwoods have to acclimate to the space they are going in for several days before they are installed or else they can warp and bend. We decided to go with 5″ wide plank white oak hardwoods! Cannot wait for those puppies to be installed!!!

IMG_1416

We hired someone to sand and refinish the ceilings and it was SO worth it! Perfect, smooth, brand new ceilings that really took it from 70’s to modern day! Note: that light fixture is hanging on by a thread…don’t worry its time is coming to an end very soon 🙂

After:

IMG_1410

We spent Every. Single. Night. last week painting the walls!! Exhausting and tiring, but fun at the same time. Getting to see your place transform with something as simple as paint is fun to watch 🙂

Guest bedroom with new ceilings and fresh paint on the walls. That weird box light will be parting with us also 🙂

IMG_1420

We removed the gold brass shower door, the cabinets are being refinished(just primed in this picture), the floors are getting new tile, fresh paint will be going on the walls and a new light fixture will be going in!

The only thing different about the kitchen is the new ceilings and the the old light fixture has been removed.

_MG_1434

I absolutely love the brick fireplace painted white! It has a whole new life now!

_MG_1454

So that is where we are at this point!

Still to do:

-finish painting remaining walls

-have flooring installed(which is happening this week ahhhhh 🙂 )

-remove old light fixtures(and replace with new ones soon)

Oh, here are a couple shots of the backyard because I forgot to put them in my last post. Great space, lots of potential!

More photos to come as progress is made!

Thanks for stopping by!

BEFORE Photos of Our House

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!! AHHH!!! Can you tell I’m excited? 🙂 IMG_7319 It has been a long, stressful, overwhelming, exciting and crazy road, but we are so thrilled to finally say that we are homeowners! I have been dreaming of the day when I can customize, design and put my stamp all over a house and that time has come!! After looking at house after house since the beginning of April, we stumbled upon our 1975 brick ranch, just before I was about to throw the house hunting towel in. The moment I saw it…I knew. Just like I knew when I saw my wedding dress for the first time! I envisioned us in this house, living life, making memories and I immediately had a vision for what it COULD be. One word…POTENTIAL. That is the one word I kept using when we saw the house for the first time! It’s our little diamond in the rough that I cannot wait to shine up and make pretty! It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an unfinished garage room that we want to turn in to something cool and a great big backyard. Now, for some lovely BEFORE photos! Get ready for a lot of not-so-exciting pictures. (we had already started the carpet removal process when I took these photos..) Welcome to our home! View when you open the front door. You walk right into the living room which is open to the dining room. IMG_1165 One of the reasons this house caught our attention was this living room. Open concept, vaulted ceilings with beams, amazing natural light and a brick fireplace! IMG_1167 IMG_1168 Front door IMG_1234 View from living room towards the dining room IMG_1243 Dining room. Doors lead to backyard. IMG_1172 Hallway IMG_1175 First bedroom on the left will be the guest bedroom. Nothing exciting here, beige walls, beige carpet..basically a beige box! Haha IMG_1177 Hall bathroom is the first door on the right of the hallway complete with gold brass and peel and stick tiles! IMG_1181 IMG_1183 IMG_1187 Last door on the left of the hallway is another bedroom, which, for the time being will be Stephen’s office/music room. **Note: Don’t you love all of the beautiful light fixtures they left for us 😉 IMG_1188 View from the bedroom, looking back towards the hallway. IMG_1192 Back of the hallway looking back at the living room. IMG_1196 Master bedroom is the last door on the right of the hallway. IMG_1198 View standing in the master bedroom. Hallway door to the right, closet, and on-suite bathroom..(although I don’t think I would call this a master suite at this point in time) ha! IMG_1201 Master bathroom IMG_1203 Master shower..eeekkk IMG_1206 The kitchen is to the right of the dining room. I love that it has windows above the sink! The whole house has great natural light which is something I look for in a space! IMG_1221 IMG_1216 Standing in the kitchen, looking back towards the dining room IMG_1217 IMG_1220 The day after we closed on our house, we were itching to make some progress, so I put Stephen to work! 😉 He ripped out all of the carpet in the living room/dining room/hallway! Such a freeing experience ripping out carpet! Goodbye carpet, please don’t come back! IMG_1207 One last view. Probably my favorite view. Standing in the dining room looking back toward the living room. Kitchen to the left and hallway to the right. IMG_1211 IMG_7317 If you want to follow along with our transformation, I will be sharing the entire process here! xoxo, O

Accessorizing Shelves

Hey guys!

I will be sharing more photos of the office progress soon…I had a carpet issue/nightmare last week, pushing the move in date a week and a half behind, so I’ve been running around trying to get everything ready! I CANNOT wait for it to be done and to share after photos with you all! Enough about the office…I was hired to accessorize a client’s living room(mainly the built in shelves on either side of the fireplace) and I wanted to share the before’s and after’s.

This family is super sweet and their bookshelves were filled with beautiful family photos…who doesn’t love a good family pic? I still wanted to incorporate some photos, but give the shelves a more “put together” look.

Before (sorry for the not-so-great quality iPhone pictures)

Accessorizing is one of my favorite parts of designing..it’s those little touches in a home that make it all come together!

Stay tuned for Office progress!

Office ‘Before’

Today, I want to share the office project I’m working on with you.

This post will have ALOT of ‘before’ photos so you can get a good idea of how the space looked the first time I saw it. If you think it looks bad in the photos, just imagine it worse, my camera has made it look nicer than it actually is. Haha.

The entrance: the only thing I am able to change out here is the sign. A new one has gone up in place of the Lean Kit sign.

Image

When you walk through the door, you go through the lobby of another company then get to a set of stairs. My job starts at the bottom stair. You are greeted with your first dose of this not-so-lovely red that takes over a lot of the space.

Image

Once you reach the top of stairs, there is a random little area that I am calling the “landing”.

Image

Which leads you to a hallway…

Image

Oh the hallway…the dreaded hallway. Let me give you some words that describe the hallway: dark, dingy, creepy, gross…just ew! Haha. Red and black paint EVERYWHERE!

Image

Image

Image

There are two bathrooms in the hallway. The first is lime green, but shows up more yellow in these photos. In person, it is beyond lime!

Image

Image

The second bathroom is…see if you can guess…yep, you’re right! Red!

Image

When you exit the bathroom, you walk a little further down the hallway…

Image

Then you finally get to the office door(the door on the right)

Image

As soon as you open the office door, you are greeted with a wall that blocks your view of the space.

Image

This is the view to your left.

Image

And your view to the right.

Image

Once you walk around the wall, you are in a big open space with great high ceilings, big windows and cool beams.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Walk past the stairs and step down to another area.

Image

Image

This doorway leads to what will become the conference room.

Image

Foyer to the conference room.

Image

A huge positive to this space and project is that even though it is very rough around the edges it has really good bones! Exposed brick, the beams in the main room and lofts really give this space a cool feel!

Image

This is the room that will become the conference room.

Image

This brick wall is the only thing I don’t have to change in this room 🙂

Image

Image

Weird wall of soundproofing panels.

Image

Image

Leave the conference room and you are back to the foyer.

Image

I know that was a lot to take in, but hopefully now you have an idea of the huge task this office has given me! I am SO excited to see this place transform!

After all of those ugly photos, I want to leave you with an inspiration photo for the space!

I will post before, in the process, and after pictures of the space as things are happening. The ball is starting to roll and I cannot wait to see my vision come to life!

For now, I want to share some inspiration photos with you.

Clean, simple, contrast describes the look I want to create in the office!
